I like the functionality, and the GUI. It also works as designed, and the price isn’t unreasonable. The only reason I don’t give them 5 stars is their assinine approach to file import/export format. First off, they require .ofx file to import. Can’t handle .csv. Most banking instintutions don’t even use .ofx, anymore. So good luck with that. So, you have to purchase 3rd party software to convert the file from .csv to .ofx. This software is not available (to my knowledge) in the app store, so you risk loading malware on your mac OR your email address gets put on some spammer’s hit list. So, good luck with that, also. Best part (and here’s where things go sideways): If you want to export the transactions, your only file format option is (drumroll please) .CSV. What the CRAP is that about?? How in the world can these guys NOT handle importing in .CSV format, but they can ONLY export in .CSV format? Conversely, How in the world can these guys NOT handle exporting in .OFX format, but they can ONLY import in .OFX format? It’s like we’re in Wonderland! So…they loose two stars for not being able to figure their way out of this. < HINT to iBear: PSST! Hey Guys - Why don’t you just allow import/export in both formats? Crazy Idea, Right? I mean, who REALLY wants to make things better for the customer? >

I have used quicken for years, so for the price I wasn’t expecting much, but was even more disappointed. After going back to January, there were so many things wrong. Example: somehow there were multiple opening balance lines, and I could not delete them. I reached out to customer service, and quickly found out, that doesnt exist. No reply, no help. Another example, somehow duplicate entries were logged, and after deleting it, the running total was messed up, would go from a 2k balance to a -1K balance with the entry of a $50 check. WHAT??? Tried fixing, and to no avail. I didn’t even try customer service again. I went and purchased another app, and it seems to be running great so far. I am sad to have wasted the money on this app. At the 40% off its still not worth the money!!!!!! Dont buy this app!

Don’t waste your money. To many issues to waste anymore of my time listing all of them. The most frustrating thing of the many issues is that I make entries and then for whatever reason the next day at least 1 of them will be gone so then I have to sit there and try to figure out which one it is so I dont have overdraft fees. Fricking rediculous that they charge you this much money for this program and it donest work properly. GARBAGE!!!!

I downloaded this app , while it worked for about three weeks (i cloud sync) today it decided not to, figures i guess it because they are trying to push out a new version. Dont waste your time , you could loose all your data. DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY

I’ve been waiting since October to have a major problem with this app. Entries just disappear so an obvious fix is needed. At first I received prompt responses from their support department but recently nothing. At this point in time I just want my money back as the app is useless to me. Don’t waste your money on this one.

Bugs bugs bugs bugs…...

I payed 20 dolars for this buggy finance program. It has got big bugs with icloud share. On iphone and ipad it doesnt work wellllll!!

Terrible

Of all the checkbook programs, this is the worse. Just try to edit a transaction and youll see what I mean. Entering a transaction isnt fun either.

This app is JUNK. Please dont waste your money. Very annoyed since this was not a cheap app (paid $11.99). Very LAME. If I could, I would give it ZERO stars, but had to choose 1.

I’ve been using iBank for over 4 years but decided to take a chance with Checkbook HD since it was on sale. It took me a week to fully get committed in using CheckBook HD so for now I’m running it in tandem with iBank before fully commit to changing over. So far I’ve been impressed with the biggest sale for me was the icloud feature, which I did not have before making it much easier to keep up with my accounts without having to remember to sync them with my laptop and phone all day. Their support forum answered a lot of simple questions on things I wasn’t sure about and its great to see they are allowing customers to submit ideas to improve the software over time. It doesn’t have the “flash” of other finance software I’ve used in the past but it suites it’s purpose that I need transaction tracking, syncing and budgeting. If it can remain simple like this without too many updates potentially ruining the software then I’ll see this as a excellent buy.

So far I haven’t been able to successfully import any OFX file correctly. Transactions are marked incorrections, payees are replaced with memos (if one exists) and transactions are duplicated. After trying to sync to my bank - transactions are always doubled. Sync more than once? Months of doubled transactions. Very disappointed.

If I had given a review of this App and it’s IOS companion before the latest update it would have been 4-5 stars. I’m glad I waited a while before reviewing this as this app has been disabled by the latest “update” and after several emails to the company with absolutely no response I feel I have to warn anyone who is thinking about using this app to stay well away! All I wanted was a simple checkbook register app that would sync between my iPhone/iPad and iMac, which this did before the update rather well. However, after the latest update none of my data was saved and I cannot get any version - iPad/iPhone or iMac, to pull data from the cloud. I’ve tried everything their “support” website said to do but nothing worked. I’ve written to the company twice and have not heard back anything. For the OSX version there seems to be no way to restore from a backup, the option is grayed out, and uninstalling/reinstalling has not worked either. BE WARNED - this app does not work anything like as advertised and the company, iBear LLC, does not seem to be supporting it. I do have to say if the issue is ever fixed I would probably give it 3 stars IF it worked as advertised, but the poor customer service will not allow me to rate it anything higher than 3, even if it worked. BUYER BEWARE!

I tottally agree with Shawn, worked great before last update, synced betweeen my iPad etc… then new update and BAM!!! now its in a total DATA Update loop, doesnt do anything, plus now have ZERO access to all the data I had in the system. Even if they fix this I dont think I will ever trust them again. $12 for an app is very expensive for a green icon on my laptop that does nothing but frustrate me. Stay away from this app. BTW I have the companion app on iPad, is also in a icloud sync update so turned that function. and seems to be ok with that turned off, but thats the main reason I purchased these apps so I could do Checkbook while traveling and catch up with sync at home.

It’s completely insane… Yes, I have about 2 years worth of data from a (very) small company, but that shouldn’t be an issue for taking more than 5 hours! Apart from that the app is quite good, especially now that I have learned how to use the Manual Payment recurrent transactions… Please, solve the syncing issues or offer other possibilities (dropbox, for instance…)

Updates Screw-Up Program

This program works great and then they update it and screw-it up. I don’t understand why programmers are not smart enough to leave things alone.

Data went into icloud and also into neverland to never be found again. Lost all data. Enough said. No No No Looks good but but isn’t!

I purchased this for my iPhone/ipad and my mac. The icloud feature was the biggest feature I wanted since my wife and I are trying to keep up with our transactions and keep them synced between devices. I e-mailed tech support but I got a response that they would look into my issue but they never updated the app after that. Basically it will sync with icloud for a few days but after that it will not sync, the cloud sync just keeps running but it never updates the changes to the account on my mac. I keep hoping for a fix soon so I can actually use this application again. It is a very detailed app so you can put in alot of transactional information but the sync feature has a long way to go.

New Update is bad

I have been using this app for two years and now with the new update it won’t sync with iCloud anymore. I hope they can fix this problem quickly.

Kicks IBanks Butt!

I love this App! ICloud updates are seamless, and I can enter transactions from my IPhone. IBank and Quicken fail miserably when compared.

Maybe I am in the minority, but I prefer to look at my check register with the oldest transactions first. This app lists them with newest first. Shouldn’t be a big deal because you should be able to click on the column head and change the sort order but no, this app does not support that very basic function. There does not appear to be any way to balance the bank accounts. This is no better than using an excel spreadsheet.
